2019 Château Lagrange Les Fiefs de Lagrange

Tasting note

Medium purple in colour with thick legs. The nose opens with a generous bouquet of ripe red and dark fruits — notably plum, cherry, blueberry, and blackcurrant — balanced by hints of clove and liquorice, an earthy undertone of beetroot, and a lifted touch of eucalyptus. Secondary aromatics are minimal, with barely perceptible oak influence. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with medium flavour intensity, showing fine-grained tannins, seamlessly integrated alcohol, and well-structured acidity. The palate is dominated by abundant cherry and blackcurrant notes that are juicy and slightly stewed, yet it avoids being overly heavy, maintaining an excellent balance and drinkability that carries through to a pleasant, vibrant, and medium-length finish.

This is a highly convincing second wine, treading fine wine territory in balance and, to some extent, intensity, merely missing that final complexity.

Drink through 2035.

Ratings

Flawed?no
DM:
9Wines with a DM9 to DM12 rating are very good wines, above average even in the world of fine wine. That means these wines have been produced really well. They are pure, balanced, and have no flaw whatsoever. They begin to show complexity. Moreover, these wines have their own character and transport typicity and terroir.
