From the Tenuta Tignanello of Marchese Antinori comes the second wine of the Tignanello. This blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon is still youthful and impetuous at the moment. Dark colour with ruby rim. Spicy aromas of rosemary and liquorice with plenty of sweetness and dark fruits. A hint of mint in the background. Astringent in the mouth with a gripping acidity. Blackcurrant, blackberry, vanilla. Dry and slightly bitter on the finish. The barrique is still brash and will surely harmonise better with the fruit as it matures. Potential for more. I would leave this vintage until 2025.
Drink from 2025 through 2030.

2019 Cold and dry winter. There was plenty of rain during spring, which helped replenish the water tables, but the cool temperatures delayed flowering by about two weeks compared to the long-term average. As is well-documented by now, the summer of 2019 was hot in Tuscany like in other parts of Europe, but there were enough showers to reduce the effect of drought, particularly towards the end of July. Although some producers in the hotter regions saw their yields reduced by heat stress, the wines produced in the Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino appellations are generally considered to be of very high quality. |
