2024 Fattoria di Sammontana Primo Fuoco Rosato

Tasting note

2024 Fattoria di Sammontana Primo Fuoco Rosato

Pale, highly translucent yet luminous ruby red with brick-red undertones, leaning closer to a light-bodied red wine than a generic, mass-market rosé. On the nose, it is reservedly fruity, dominated instead by a sandy-earthy, clay-like minerality, dried hay, bay leaf, and a subtly dusty, musty cellar character, alongside vegetal notes of rhubarb. The fruit profile presents red berries - notably strawberry and cranberry - with a hint of blood orange. The palate is considerably fresher, driven by a crisp, lively acidity, with flavours leaning more pronouncedly towards cranberry, blood orange, and grapefruit than the bouquet suggests. Rhubarb re-emerges, framed by a delicate bitterness and soft, yet perceptible tannins. Whilst structurally well-balanced, the wine retains a rustic, idiosyncratic character; it leans firmly towards a natural style without entirely abandoning conventional winemaking techniques. A viable warm-weather alternative to a weightier red, this is distinctly food-friendly, likely performing better as a gastronomic pairing than on its own. Good.

Drink through 2028.
