2010 Faustino I Gran Reserva

Tasting note

2010 Faustino I Gran Reserva

Medium to deep ruby, with a very subtle, watery garnet rim. The nose opens with dark berries—blackberry, blackcurrant, and cherry—showing a slightly dried character alongside prune. This is overlaid by well-integrated vanilla sweetness, harmonising with savoury notes of tobacco, lavender, and oregano, while an earthy, leathery undertone rounds out the profile. A complex bouquet that covers the full aromatic spectrum. The palate is surprisingly fresh, offering medium acidity, supple tannins, and a medium body. Sour cherry, dark plum, and currant appear tighter and less "cooked" than the nose suggests. However, the wine lacks a little in depth and length, finishing slightly drying with a hint of dark chocolate.

A world-renowned Rioja bestseller and a solid, well-made wine.

Drink through 2030.

Wine details

Vintage:
2010

Officially rated 'Excellent' by the Consejo Regulador, the 2010 vintage is distinguished by a balanced growing cycle and moderate yields. A cooler summer preserved acidity, whilst a dry, warm harvest period ensured optimal phenolic ripeness and sanitary condition. The resulting wines exhibit structural longevity, characterised by significant colour depth, fresh fruit profiles, and fine-grained tannins. It is widely considered a benchmark year for age-worthy Rioja, challenging previous stand-out vintages, such as 1964 and 2001.
