Deep ruby red with only light brick-red tones. Noble fruit on the nose. There is dark plum, sour cherry, blackcurrant, some raspberry, slightly cooked with an attractive sweetness. This is a very inviting bouquet! There is also smoke, vanilla, tobacco, dried herbs and some paprika and Earl Grey. Complex, mature. Ripe tannins on the palate, drying out. Not a powerful body, but a good intensity of flavour: sour cherry, blackcurrant, blueberry, vanilla again. Dark chocolate and oak spice. All with a subtle sweetness. The wine is not broad on the palate, but deep. Cassis and black tea carry the finish. Great, for me now à point!

2002 Good vintage in Bordeaux, although not excellent. Mild winter, followed by a wet spring. Flowering was uneven and ripening was slow throughout the summer months. It was not until September that temperatures got warm enough to help the grapes ripen. As a result, strict selection was necessary to avoid green and unripe wines. Harvesting began in late September and lasted into October. The good producers fared well, especially if they took a slow approach to harvesting. As Cabernet Sauvignon performed better than Merlot in this vintage, the wines from the left bank seem to be better on average than those from the right bank. |
