The winery based in Barbaresco, Piedmont, was founded in 1859. Angelo Gaja, representing the third generation, assumed control in 1969, introducing yield restrictions, controlled fermentation, and early malolactic fermentation with oenologist Guido Rivella. The winery gained global attention for its single-vineyard Barbaresco. Today, they cultivate over 90 hectares of vineyards at the main estate, together with more than 100 additional hectares at the acquired wineries in Tuscany.
