ICANN seeks auction design experts

ICANNICANN is currently looking for auction design experts:

ICANN has identified several areas where auctions might be an appropriate tool, such as the efficient disposition of data from terminated registrars and registries, the allocation of single-character second-level domain names, and perhaps, resolution of contention between competing commercial applicants for identical strings in the application process for new generic Top Level Domains.

A number of commenters and academics have recommended auctions as the preferred method of objectively allocating scarce resources such as popular second-level domain names or gTLD strings. Also, ICANN received substantial public comment in the discussion on allocation of single-character second-level names that the names should be allocated through an auction model.

This does not necessarily mean that ICANN has decided to formally proceed with auctions or that auctions will occur any time soon. At this point, ICANN is seeking expertise to further work in this area. However, ICANN is hoping to select a qualified entity or entities to assist with auctions in 2008.

You will work as a key member of a small team, assisting in production of revenue generating web sites, and working directly with the President of the company and assisting in the following activities:

* Acquiring domain names and web sites
* Running paid search advertising campaigns
* Advertising sales
* Finding new and appropriate partners for existing Domainer customers
* Finding content contributors for existing Domainer customers

Required Skills/Experience

* Knowledge and experience with Domain Name registration process and marketplaces such as Sedo.com, Pool.com and Buydomains.com
* Knowledge and experience domain name parking systems (Domain Sponsor, Hitfarm, Sedo, etc…)
* Knowledge of domain name research tools and methodologies (Whois, Reverse DNS, etc…)
* Experience with direct sales, sales management tools and sales process

CIRA Launches Search for New CEO

The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) is the organization managing the .CA ccTLD. Founding CEO Bernard Turcotte will leave CIRA. Therefore, the organization launches a nation-wide search for a new CEO. I’m sure there are good candidates among the subscribers of this blog. Here’s the press release:
