Large domain company Name Media has made another major acquisition. They purchased the domain parking site SmartName.com, a monetization service for owners of quality domain names. Name Media already owns the PPC services GoldKey.com and ActiveAudience.com. They decided to switch SmartName’s feed provider from Yahoo to Google. In addition to these domain monetization services, Name Media operates the domain aftermarkets BuyDomains and Afternic.

The SmartName acquisition is just another example of the consolidation going on in the domain market. Other big players like Marchex and iREIT are buying companies too, but they seem to be looking for content providers at the moment in order to better monetize their own domain portfolio through nice-looking parking pages with quality content.
