Microsoft Yahoo

Only few days since Microsoft has been Amazon’s new search partner we hear that Microsoft is now also in negotiations with Yahoo.com. Indeed there is an article in todays Wall Street Journal reporting that Microsoft might even be willing to acquire a stake in Yahoo at a price of $2 billion. An equity stake in Yahoo would definitely be a very good strategy to get in a better position in competition with Google, since Microsoft’s Windows Live search engine might then power Yahoo search. Currently Microsoft is quickly falling behind Yahoo and Google in the hard-fought search engine market. Anyway, a Microsoft buy-in is still far away, since Yahoo’s stakeholders will probably not want to get MS aboard, unless (which, at least at the moment, is unlikely though) Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang can convince the company’s shareholders to sell to Microsoft.
